Cross-cultural working: understanding diversity for enhanced scientific performance

Aim

To help participants understand how their own communication style impacts on others and how culture can influence communicative effectiveness. Using these insights, participants will practice techniques for managing cross-cultural communication challenges in the workplace.

Contents

This workshop will develop the skills, knowledge and personal attributes of participants for succeeding in a cross cultural working environment.

You will:

  • Increase self-awareness of your communication style

  • Understand your own cultural preference

  • Learn to manage cross-cultural communication challenges

  • Analyse how culture influences work relationships and performance

The course consists of several sessions. You should be able to attend all of them.

Study commitment

Participants will be required to email their cross-cultural challenges to the course leader a few days before the workshop, as well as to complete a questionnaire about communication styles.
