Mindfulness for improved self mastery

The practice of mindfulness is increasingly recognised as an effective method for improving self-management and reducing stress. Scientists’ achievement orientated work styles and rhythms can sometimes aggravate a tendency to disconnect from the present moment and lose perspective on priorities. This course will introduce participants to mindfulness as a tool for enhanced self-effectiveness through an improved sense of moment by moment awareness.

The course will be based on the MBSR* program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and will focus particularly on addressing the stress faced by scientists in their everyday working lives. *Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

The course has been designed as an experimental and interactive workshop, aiming to guide participants towards self-reflection and self-regulation.


Andrés Martín Asuero was trained in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University Medical Center, Massachusetts. He lectures and trains professional teams in personal development including stress reduction and self-mastery. Among his customers are large hospitals and health institutions.

Amanda Dawn Blackley is a teacher of yoga and meditation and MBSR instructor. She was the director of International Radio, Communication and Press in the Volvo Ocean Race and other global sport events from 2005-2010. Now she works teaching yoga and mindfulness and she is currently specialising in yoga as therapy.

Participants should dress comfortably as the workshop will include some simple stretching exercises.
